TOPO! Explorer Deluxe

Overview

This article describes how to create a log file which will assist NG Maps in identifying and resolving technical issues not already addressed on this site. This article contains instructions for both Mac and PC OS. Once you have completed creating your log file please email this file to: testing@topo.com with a description of the problem.

Step-by-Step

Windows Instructions

Ensure all applications are closed before starting

1. Browse your computer's harddrive (most likely "C Drive")

2. Locate and browse the Program Files folder

3. Locate and browse the TOPO! Explorer folder

4. Locate the application "Tracer.exe" and launch it by double-clicking. It will launch a blank white screen (this is normal).

5. Next, launch the TOPO! Explorer application and perform the tasks that were creating a crash or issue. As soon as the crash/issue occurs, minimize TOPO! Explorer and return to the Tracer.exe.

6. The blank tracer screen will now be filled with text, which was recorded from the operations in your application.

7. From the File Menu in Tracer - choose "Save As". Type in a file name (preferably your name) and add ".txt" to the end. For example "JohnDoe.txt".

8. Email this text file to testing@topo.com with a description of the problem you were experiencing.

Mac Instructions

Ensure all applications are closed before starting

1. Browse to your harddrive, Applications, Utilities Folder and launch Console.

2. Clear the Console screen if any content is currently displayed by choosing "Clear Display" icon at the top of the Console screen.

3. Launch TOPO! Explorer and perform any tasks that lead to a crash or your issue.

4. Once the crash has occurred, return to console - select all of the text displayed, copy, and paste into "Textedit".

5. Name your text file your name, for example: "JohnDoe.txt" - email the file to testing@topo.com and provide a description of the problem.
