Overview
With TOPO! Version 4.5.0 installed you can select maps from TOPO! State Series or Weekend Explorer products and transfer them to your Magellan Triton GPS receiver. Selecting maps is a similar process to defining a print area and uses the same selection tool. This article provides step-by-step directions and tips on selecting maps for transfer.
Step-by-Step
To successfully transfer maps to a Triton ensure that VantagePoint is closed and that your Triton is connected to your PC and turned on. Additionally ensure that your Triton is set to "VantagePoint" mode for connectivity.
1. Launch the TOPO! application and navigate to the general area that you wish to transfer
2. Activate the selection tool from the tool bar (5th from the left and appears like a red dashed rectangle)
3. A large Red-X will appear on your screen, and a right-hand menu will appear. If you are familiar with the print tool in TOPO! this is exactly the same function.
TOPO! can export maps from either level 4 (100k topos) or level 5 (24k topos). If you setup your selection on level 4, only this map level will export. If you setup your selection on level 5 - both level 4 and level 5 maps will transfer to your Triton.
4. Position the Red-X to select the maps you wish to export. You can create irregular sized/shaped map selection areas by ensuring that the "Select 1 Full Page" option is not checked and then stretch the top, bottom, left and right edges of the red bounding box to encompass your preferred area.
Tip: If are trying to select a large coverage area - for example all of Rocky Mountain National Park, you can set your bounding box on level 1, 2, or 3, then zoom into level 4 or 5 to export. In this scenario you get a larger perspective on the entire coverage area to be exported.
5. Once you have defined your export area select the GPS tab from the right export menu. You can name the map you are exporting at the bottom of the "Export to Triton" section. Additionally, if you are exporting a map that contains waypoints, or routes you can choose to export those to the Triton at this time as well by checking the appropriate boxes.
6. Ensure your Triton is connected, in VantagePoint mode and then press the "Export Now" button. A progress bar at the bottom of the TOPO! screen will display your export status.
