Overview
The Waypoint/Symbol tool in TOPO! Explorer enables you to customize your maps by placing Waypoints/Symbols at specific locations, for example a campsite or trailhead. The Waypoint/Symbol tool is located on the main tool bar on the top of the TOPO! Explorer screen and appears like a tent. This article describes the core functionalityl from placement to editing, deletion, and moving.
Step-by-Step
1. Launch the TOPO! Explorer desktop application and either open an existing Trip File or start a new one by navigating to the "Import/Export" bucket on the bottom of the left navigation bar.
2. Zoom into the SuperQuad you wish to mark with a symbol and select the symbol/waypoint tool from the top tool bar.
3. Place symbols/waypoints by positioning your cursor (now a crosshair) where you wish to mark and left click with your mouse.
Moving Symbols
1. Position your cursor over a placed symbol/waypoint that you wish to move. Your cursor will change to a hand.
2. Hold down the left mouse button to grab the symbol - then move your mouse to the new position.
3. Release the mouse button to place the symbol.
If you wish to place a waypoint/symbol at a specific geographic coordinate you can type the position into the waypoint's location fields found on it's edit page.
Editing Symbols
1. To edit the name, description, tags, location, or symbol click on the waypoint you wish to edit. It's details will appear in the pop-up window at the bottom of the TOPO! Explorer application screen. Additionally you can select a waypoint to edit from the list or thumbnail views, or by using the "select" tool on the top tool bar.
2. To change the Symbol click the current symbol icon you wish to change. The symbol selection window will appear.
3. Choose a category and browse available symbols by clicking on the symbol category name. For example "Recreation"
4. Continue to drill down through subcategories until you reach the symbol you desire. Select it by clicking the symbol and then selecting "Ok" at the bottom of the page.
You can apply this change to multiple waypoints by selecting a group you wish to edit from the list or thumbnail view of "Waypoints" located in the "Trip" bucket of the left navigation bar.
