TOPO! Explorer

Overview

The TOPO! Explorer Text Tool enables you to customize your maps and Trip Files by adding text labels directly to the map. The tool is located on the top menu bar and appears like a letter "T" to the left of the Help Icon. This article reviews the basics of adding text labels, editing them, moving, and deletion.

Step-by-Step

1. Launch the TOPO! Explorer application and either open an existing Trip File or start a new one by clicking the "File - New or Open" link in the "Import / Export" bucket on the left navigation bar.

2. Zoom into your SuperQuads to the location which you'd like to add a text label.

3. Activate the Text Tool by selecting it from the tool bar - note that your cursor will change to a traditional text marquee.

4. Left click to place a text box. A yellow "Untitled" text box will appear.

5. Begin typing your message. There is no need to select or do anything additional.

6. Once you've completed your message - you can either select a different tool or place another text box.

Editing Text

1. Activate the Text Tool by selecting it from the menu bar.

2. Position your cursor over text label you wish to edit. note a small blue "x" appears on the text box

3. Click the blue x and your text box will highlight yellow. TOPO! Explorer positions your cursor to the far right side of the text box. You can use the arrow keys, backspace, or simply type in additional text with your keyboard. When complete either select an additional tool or place another text box.

Moving Text Boxes

1. Activate either the Select or Text Tool from the menu bar.

2. Position your cursor over the text label you wish to move. note a small blue "x" appears in the middle of all text boxes.

3. Place your cursor over the small blue x in the middle of the text box.

4. Hold down the left mouse button while moving your cursor to the new location for your text box. Release the left mouse button to place.


Deleting Text Boxes

1. Activate either the Text or Select Tool

2. Position your cursor over the small "blue x" on the text box

3. Right click (PC) or CNTRL click (Mac).

4. Choose the Delete option from the pop-up menu


Changing Font Size, Style, Background, and Color

1. Activate either the Text or Select Tool

2. Position your cursor over the small "blue x" on the text box

3. Right click (PC) or CNTRL click (Mac) to display the pop-up menu.

4. Choose the "Change Style" option - the Text Style Editor will appear.

5. Use the drop down menus to select between Font Size, Style, and Background.

6. Use the color wheel at the bottom to select hue (outer ring) and final desired color from the Inner Square.

7. Click OK when finished.
