Available exclusively at retailers TOPO! Explorer Deluxe contains 25 map credits for use on the topo.com online map store plus a complete set of USGS 1:100k scale topographic maps for the entire US.
The TOPO! Explorer Deluxe application is the same that is available for download at topo.com. This article covers two options for installation, either first time from the Explorer Deluxe DVD, or as an activation assuming that you have downloaded and installed the application from the topo.com website. Instructions for both Mac and PC OS are offered below.
Step-by-Step
This article provides detailed instructions on the installation of TOPO! Explorer Deluxe for both Mac and PC OS. Note:If you have already downloaded and installed the TOPO! Explorer application from topo.com please use the directions contained in the "With Previous Installation of TOPO! Explorer" section further down this page.
Without Previous Installation of TOPO! Explorer
PC - New Install:
1. Insert the TOPO! Explorer DVD #1 into your DVD Drive. In most cases the auto-run will start the setup wizard. If it does not, browse the contents of the DVD and double-click the "setup" icon.
2. The setup wizard will appear - follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation. Windows Vista users may be asked to "allow" the installation. You may be prompted to install or update your .NET framework, allow this operation.
3. Install contents from the DVD will be copied to your computer. This process may take several minutes depending on your hardware.
4. The install wizard will finish and ask you to click "Close". The Wizard will close.
5. Browse to your Windows start button, then to "programs" and locate TOPO! Explorer. Double-Click to launch.
6. The first time you launch TOPO! Explorer will display a message that it is connecting to topo.com and updating the application. This pop-up window may disappear. Do Not close TOPO! Explorer until the application appears. This may take several minutes based upon your hardware and internet connection.
7. Once TOPO! Explorer launches you will be presented with the login screen. Click the Login button. If you already have a free user account created on topo.com you can choose to sign in. If not, complete the form and create a user account. After completing the form an account confirmation email will be sent to your email. Follow the instructions in that email to activate your account, then return to the TOPO! Explorer application and login.
8. Once logged in click the "My Account" link in the top-left corner of the TOPO! Explorer application. Then navigate to the "My Purchases" tab. Click the "Enter a Serial Number" link and enter the TOPO! Explorer Deluxe S/N located on the back of your CD case. Be sure to enter in full caps with dashes. This will deposit 25 map credits into your account.
Installation is complete, account is activated, and map credits are deposited. You are now ready to begin using the application, exploring the website, and download trips and maps.
Mac - New Install:
1. Place the TOPO! Explorer Disc 1 into your DVD Drive.
2. Browse the DVD's contents and locate the TOPO! Explorer.app - drag and drop this file to your Mac's Application's folder.
3. Once the package is copied - run the TOPO! Explorer application by double-clicking it.
4. TOPO! Explorer launches you will be presented with the login screen. Click the Login button. If you already have a free user account created on topo.com you can choose to sign in. If not, complete the form and create a user account. After completing the form an account confirmation email will be sent to your email. Follow the instructions in that email to activate your account, then return to the TOPO! Explorer application and login.
5. Once logged in click the "My Account" link in the top-left corner of the TOPO! Explorer application. Then navigate to the "My Purchases" tab. Click the "Enter a Serial Number" link and enter the TOPO! Explorer Deluxe S/N located on the back of your CD case. Be sure to enter in full caps with dashes. This will deposit 25 map credits into your account.

With Previous Installation of TOPO! Explorer
PC & Mac - Activation with Previous Install
If you have already downloaded and installed the TOPO! Explorer application you do not need to install the application found on Disc 1 - the application available on topo.com is the same (if not newer) than the application found on either TOPO! Explorer and Explorer Deluxe retail kits.
To redeem your map credits and access the 100k maps that come with Explorer Deluxe follow the instructions below:
1. Launch your TOPO! Explorer application and login.
2. Click the My Account button in the upper-left and then select the My Purchases Tab.
3. Select the "enter another serial number" link near the center of the page and then enter exactly as printed (Including all caps and dashes) your TOPO! Explorer serial number. The SN is printed on a white sticker on the back-right corner of your CD case.
An on-screen message will appear that TOPO! Explorer maps are being installed - click OK. A secondary screen will notify you when the installation is complete. Note: your Maps list in your library will now display a tab for SuperQuads and for "TOPO! Products" - you'll see an entry for TOPO! Explorer Deluxe on the "TOPO! Products" tab.
4. Once activated is complete simply zoom into the maps. When you reach the 100k level maps you will be asked to insert either Disc 1 or Disc 2. Disc 1 covers all States west of 100 degrees longitude, approximately Oklahoma's north-south border with Texas. Disc 2 covers all States east of that same border.
