TOPO! Explorer Deluxe

Symptom

TOPO! Explorer crashes or displays a big red 'X' instead of displaying a map. The map is not initially displayed when TOPO! Explorer starts, but many actions will display the map.

Diagnosis

Run TOPO! Explorer. TOPO! Explorer starts successfully. Click "Photos" in the left-hand navigation menu. TOPO! Explorer crashes or displays a big red 'X'.

Solution

1. Update the video card drivers. Users with both ATI and NVIDIA video cards have experienced this problem and resolved it by updating their video card drivers.

Most ATI video card drivers can be updated with the latest ATI Catalyst software: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.HTML

NVIDIA drivers may be found here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

2. In certain cases (notebook computers or computers with integrated graphics in particular) the latest drivers may not be on the NVIDIA website, and are available instead from the computer manufacturer. The following website contains information about updating NVIDIA drivers for systems that aren't officially supported by either NVIDIA or the computer manufacturer:

http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/

3. If updating the video driver does not resolve the issue, please let us know and email a dxdiag report to testing@topo.com. To get a dxdiag report, type "dxdiag" (without the quotes) then press Enter or Return in the Windows (Start) > Run... or Start Search... field.
